High levels of customer returns have been near the top of fashion brands’ list of concerns for a number of years now…..and the problem has got a lot worse with the growth in ecommerce.
i.LEVEL has worked hard on the issue and we’ve developed an IT capability that we’re confident will help fashion brands immeasurably. Being launched as we write, the capability is called ‘i.LEVEL’s Customer Returns Section’, and we’ve bolted it on to both our wholesale and concessions software.
Our Returns Section includes wholesale retailers as well as ecommerce and offers a full returns capability. Key features include the ability to identify the customer alongside the reasons for the return.
The latter is especially important in order to discern whether the problem rests with the consumer (in terms of sizes and preferences) rather than a fault with the garment itself at the source of production. If faulty, our Customer Returns Section allocates it back to the factory concerned.
Perhaps the most valuable feature is a reporting structure which allows a fashion brand to analyse hundreds of returns in one go. This helps identify key patterns in returns and empowers a fashion brand to quickly implement solutions, for example, if one single supplier is primarily at fault.
Our solution comes at a time when, to quote the UK’s Retail Bulletin, the fashion industry has reached ‘past the point of no return’. The industry experiences the highest rate of returns across the board, with 57% of online shoppers returning casual clothing in the last 12 months, and 31% returning shoes. Ouch.
It also comes at a time when, according to European payments provider Klarna, retailers who fail to provide consumers with a customer friendly and easy returns service risk losing a large proportion of their customer base.
Whichever way you look at it, customer returns are a big, big issue for fashion brands and we are confident our Returns Section goes a long way to addressing the issue.
