The top fashion exhibitions to visit in the UK

You’ll find i.LEVEL at a wide range of fashion trade exhibitions across the UK, whether it’s Pure London, Moda, Make it British!, London Edge, Fashion SVP… name it, we’re as likely to be there. We use the time to visit our fashion brand clients and also to get a feel for upcoming developments and trends within fashion – it’s moving at such a pace now that keeping ahead of key trends is vital.

We also like to keep informed about key fashion style changes and it wasn’t lost on us that the first Monday in May pays homage to one of the biggest annual events in fashion – the Met Gala in New York City. Yes, this week the pioneers of the fashion industry graced the red carpet in an array of spectacular creations, exclusively designed by the world’s most notable fashion houses. The theme – Camp: Notes on fashion – gave a nod to the same-titled exhibition opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last night.

But the US isn’t alone in showcasing some stunning fashion exhibitions. As the UK’s leading software company built solely for the fashion industry, here are our favourites we think you might draw inspiration from:

–          Dior at London V&A – The largest collection from the French house ever to be showcased in the UK, The Designer of Dreams features breathtakingly beautiful couture gowns spanning back decades. Reinforcing why Paris is the fashion capital of the world, the exhibition’s highlights include Galliano’s silk ‘J’adore’ dress from 1960.

–          Bath Fashion Museum – When your most famous resident was Jane Austen, it is of little wonder why the displays at Bath’s Fashion Museum celebrates clothes of the authoress’s time. A parade of Georgian styles and accessories expressing admiration of this cities rich and imaginative history, it is well worth a visit.

–          Gallery of Costume – Nested away in a country estate a few miles outside of Manchester, sits this compact exhibition. With more of an emphasis on how men, women and children of the north would have dressed across classes from the 17th century to the present day, the simplicity of the collections have become a talking point.

–          Fashion Space Gallery – Part of the London College of Fashion, this contemporary exhibition space is the masterwork of a group of LCF researchers and academics, to showcase emerging talent. Focusing on the future of fashion, the projects often provoke and inspire new developments within the ever-changing fashion industry.
